Christine brings a combination of frontline experience, policy expertise, and international leadership to her work at Culture Shift. Having spent her career at the intersection of safeguarding, gender-based violence, and systemic change, she understands what it takes to help people speak up, feel heard, and access the support they need. As Head of Culture Transformation, she leads the work that sits at the very heart of Culture Shift's mission: ensuring that the people organisations are trying to support remain central to every decision the company makes.

We put your burning questions to our Head of Culture Transformation, Christine Bonney.
Christine, tell us about your career history and expertise
My professional background spans frontline work with young people and survivors of gender-based violence, project and service management for people in crisis, and policy and advocacy at a national and international level. I've worked on government programmes for young people, and I spent a significant period as Regional Lead for the Middle East at an international development organisation, where I led on gender-based violence, child protection, and EDI, overseeing programmes and fundraising across the region.
What ties all of that together is a deep understanding of what it means to support someone through one of the hardest moments of their life. Whether that's as a frontline worker, a policy advocate, or someone driving institutional change from within. I know what it's like to sit with a survivor and help them navigate a system, and I know what it's like to try to shift that system from the inside. That experience shapes everything I do at Culture Shift.
What first attracted you to Culture Shift?
I'd spent my whole career in the charity and public sectors, and I'd been thinking seriously about moving into the tech-for-good space, and Culture Shift stood out immediately. The mission was genuinely aligned with work I'd been doing for years, and the fact that it's a small, Manchester-based company with a really strong organisational ethos made it feel like the right fit. When I visited the office and met the team, that instinct was confirmed. There's something quite special about the culture here, and I knew fairly quickly that it was a place where I'd do some of the best work of my career.
What does it mean to be the Head of Culture Transformation at Culture Shift?
Culture Shift is far more than a reporting platform, and my team's job is to make sure that's felt by every customer we work with. We provide wraparound support to help organisations move beyond tick-box compliance and actually tackle the cultural and systemic issues that allow harmful behaviour to persist. In practice, that looks like a lot of different things: our Community of Practice, our Training Academy, our online network, our benchmarking project, and a maturity model we've developed to help organisations assess where they are on their culture change journey and demonstrate the impact of the work they're doing.
But at the core of it, my role is about being the bridge between the people who report harmful behaviour and the organisations trying to support them. I make sure that everything Culture Shift does ultimately removes barriers and makes it easier for people to speak up.
What do you find most interesting about the tech-for-good space?
There are so many people doing genuinely important work in really challenging circumstances, in the charity sector and the public sector. I saw first-hand how funding constraints, capacity issues, and bureaucracy can slow things down and limit what's possible. Tech-for-good companies can often move faster, adapt more readily, and try things that wouldn't be feasible in more traditional settings. I also find the actual use of technology genuinely exciting, not just what our platform does, but the tools and approaches that allow us to do our work better as a company. Getting to collaborate with product teams, software developers, and design experts to think carefully about how to build something with the user truly in mind is a really rewarding part of the job.
What does the future look like at Culture Shift, and what are you most excited about?
A lot of the work we've built over recent years is now really hitting its stride. Our Training Academy is growing, our events are getting bigger and better, and we're working with a more diverse range of partners across different sectors than ever before. We're also at a point where we can aggregate data in ways that weren't possible before, which opens up genuinely new conversations about impact and evidence.
There's also a broader context worth mentioning: we're seeing continued changes in legislation and regulation (for employers, universities, and across different sectors) and more organisations are waking up to the importance of this work. For Culture Shift, that means more opportunities to show up with the expertise and the track record to help them do it properly.
