Addressing Staff-Student Sexual Misconduct Disclosures and Complaints with The 1752 Group

Course overview

This sexual misconduct training session focuses on the challenging topic of addressing staff-student sexual misconduct disclosures and complaints in Higher Education, using anonymised case studies of two students’ experiences in UK universities to introduce issues that HR, complaints and student services professionals need to be familiar with in responding to staff-student misconduct reports and cases.

This session will support you in your journey to ensuring compliance with the new Office for Students (OfS) regulations on harassment and sexual misconduct in Higher Education in England. The OfS new regulatory framework recommends that staff with a particular role in tackling harassment and sexual misconduct are likely to need more training than others. Therefore, this session supports compliance with this framework, by upskilling professional services staff who may have some familiarity with the principles and practice of handling disciplinary cases but may not have any particular knowledge of issues relating to staff sexual misconduct or harassment. 

This training is suitable for staff in Higher Education, including HR, Employee Relations, Complaints and Student Discipline, Case Workers and Student Services teams.

In line with the Office for Students’ new regulatory framework, the training is evidence-based and delivered by a trainer with specialist expertise, Dr Anna Bull.   • To understand how power imbalances can create a context that enables staff-student sexual misconduct to occur
  • To become aware of issues that can arise with handling disclosures or reports about staff-student sexual misconduct within your institution.
