Responding to Disclosures Training
How staff respond to disclosures of bullying, harassment, sexual misconduct, or other harmful behaviour can make the difference between silence and support. A good response builds trust, encourages speaking up, and helps individuals access the right support. A poor response can deter people from ever speaking up again.
In this course, your teams will:
- Learn how to respond calmly, empathetically, and supportively to disclosures of harmful behaviour.
- Understand trauma-informed, survivor-centred practice and why it matters.
- Build confidence in when to listen, when to escalate, and how to signpost effectively.
- Contribute to a stronger organisational speak-up culture.

Course Overview
This short interactive disclosure training course is designed for any staff member who may receive a disclosure: from HR and student services teams to line managers and supervisors. Participants will explore practical strategies and their organisation’s own policies to embed safer responses across the board.
In this session, we cover:
- Trauma-informed practice: principles of safety, trust, choice, and empowerment.
- Workplace compliance: links to the Worker Protection Act and anticipated “all reasonable steps” standard by 2026.
- Higher Education compliance: meeting and exceeding OfS Condition E6 requirements.
- Risks of poor responses – how silence or dismissal undermines trust and reporting.
Participants will leave with the confidence, tools, and awareness to respond to disclosures in a way that supports individuals and strengthens organisational culture.
